Brief History of Pithoragarh :-

Pithoragarh is bound in the north by the district of Almora divided by the Sarju River, in the east it is separated from Nepal by the Kali River and forms a major part of the Kumaon region in Uttarkhand Himalaya. Fora brief period in the 15th century, the region was taken over by the Brahm kings but then the Chand kings regained their rule for a long time to come, till the British rule in India.The Tibet plateau is situated to the north and Nepal is to the east. The Kali River originates from Kalapaani and flows south, forming the eastern border with Nepal.

Places of Attraction in Pithoragarh :-

Askot Sanctuary at an altitude of 5412 feet in the Kumaon region of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. Askot sanctuary is located 55kms from Pithoragarh.

Chandak located at a distance of 10kms from Pithoragarh.Chandak provides an uphill climb and is in the northern part of the soar valley.

Nakuleshwara located at a distance of 12kms from Pithoragarh.This temple was built by the last two Pandavs, Nakula and Sahadev.

Arjuneswar temple temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva.It is believed that the temple is built by Arjuna of the Pandavas.

Kapileshwar Mahadev is situated at a distance of 04kms from Pithoragarh.The temple is also known for exotic views of the Himalayas and Soar Valley.The ancient caves of Kapileshwar Mahadev are located amidst the rolling green hills.

How to reach:

By Air :pantnagar which is 250kms is the nearest airport to reach Pithoragarh. There are regular flights from New Delhi.

Rail: Nearest Ralway station is Tanakpur which is 150kms from Pithoragarh, Connected with many other parts of India. Taxis are available from Tanakpur Railway station to Pithoragarh.

Road :Connected by road from Delhi and other parts of North India.
