About Pauri

Pauri is one of the lesser known destinations in Uttrakhand. It is one of the places in Garhwal from where you one can have a good view of Himalayan mountain ranges. The other important places to visit in Pauri are Kandoliya, Chaukhamba View Point, Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev, Khirsu, Nagdev. Brief History of Pauri :-

Pauri was a part of the Garhwal Kingdom ruled by the Pal (Shah) dynasty. The throne of the King was at Srinagar. In 1803 Gurkhas, after many unsuccessful attempts, finally succeeded in capturing Garhwal by defeating the army of King Pradyumna Shah. In 1816, the British defeated the Gurkhas in the Anglo-Nepalese War, and the Garhwal Kingdom was re-established from Tehri.

Places of Attraction in Pauri :-

Kandoliya temple is dedicated to Kandoliya Devta, located on the Pauri - Lansdowne road amidst picturesque view. Kandoliya is Shiva temple it is situated only 2km away from the main Pauri.

Khirsu situated 16kms away from Pauri at an altitude of 1700meters above sea level. Khirsu is situated in a tranquil place with numerous oak trees, deodar trees and apple orchards around.

Chaukhamba View Point is situated 4kms away from main Pauri. Chaukhamba Viewpoint ridge overlooks the splendid Idwal valley and Chaukhamba Peaks.

Nagdev is situated about 3kms away from city center and is famous for snake god Nag.

KyunkaleshwarMahadev is situated in the suburbs of themain town. It is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva it is an 8th century temple. Book Your Tour

How to reach:

By Air:Jolly Grant which is 160kms is the nearest airport to reach Pauri. There are regular flights from New Delhi.

Rail: Nearest Ralway station is Kotdwar which is 110 km away from pauri, Connected with Delhi,Haridwar and other parts of India. Taxis are available from Kotdwar Railway station toPauri.

Road:Connected by road from Delhi and other parts of North India.
