About Panch Kedar Yatra

According to legend of epic Mahabharata, pandavas were on to meet lord Shiva to seek his blessings to wash away their sins but Lord Shiva was not interested in meeting to Pandavas. When Pandavas reached in Kedaranth, Lord Shiva disguise himself in the form of Bull but could not hide himself and recognized by Bhima, before Shiva could plunge himself beneath the ground, Bhima had held Bull’s hind legs. In struggle different part of Bulls body appeared at different places in Uttarakhand Himalayas. Forelegs appeared at Pashupatinath in Kathmandu Nepal, The rump at Kedarnath, the torso including Naval at Madhmaheshwar or Madhya Maheshwar, Arms at Tungnath, The face at Rudranath and matted hair at Kalpeshwar, These five places are known as Panch Kedar. Kedarnath :-

The first Panch Kedar Temple is Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India. Here Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Bulls Hump.

Tungnath :-

One of the sacred among Panch Kedar located at the height of 3,680mts above sea level.It is considered 1000 Yrs old temple. The Temple was discovered by Adi Shankaracharya. It can be reached by foot from Chopta. Once you are there in Tungnath you can visit magnificent view of Himalayan peaks.

Rudranath :-

The Rudranath temple is located at the height of 2286 mts above sea level. It can be reached through trek from Gopeshwar. There is 21 Kms from Sagar Village which is 5 Kms from Gopeshwar, The trek passes through the forest, meadows deep gorges. It is toughest of all Kedar temples.

Madhmaheshwar (MadhyaMaheshwar) :-

Madhmaheshwar is located at an altitude of 3265 mts above sea level, It is reached from Ookhimath by trek passing through Rhododendron forest, enroute you will also visit shephered huts, villages.

Kalpeshwar :-

The Last of Panch Kedar temples is Kalpeshwar is located at the height of 2134 mts above sea level. It is the only temple of Panch Kedar which remains open throughout the year. Rest all other temples remains close during winter. It can be reached by trek from Helang.
