About Nainital

The beautiful district of Nainital is a shining ornament in the Himalayan necklace. It is dotted with lakes and is sometimes known as the 'Lake District' of India. It is famous for the Corbett National Park. Some of the other tourist attractions in the district are Haldwani , Kaladhungi , Ramnagar , Bhowali , Ramgarh , Mukteshwar , Bhimtal , Sattal and Naukuchiatal. Nainital the beautiful hill resort situated at an altitude of 2,084 metres above sea level. The Naini Lake a popular among tourist is a pear-shaped lake with approximate two miles circumference. Brief History of Nainital :-

The British have important role in history of Kumaon and Nainital. The town founded in 1841 by P Barron, later on in 1946 Captain Madden came to this place and wrote about his experiences. During British period soldiers and colonial officials visited this place with their families and ultimately a beautiful hill station came into existence. Also therole of rulers of Kumaon cannot be ignored. The landslides which took placein 1866, 1879 and 1880 have impact on overall and present days terrain. In the latter half of 19th century number of schools came up in Nainital and made it educational hub earlier those schools consisted largely for children of British soldiers and colonial official later on it became one of the popular education hub, Sherwood college of Nainital is one of them. Construction of Railway line till Kathgodam in 1882 played phenomenal role in development of Nainital and making it easier to accessible from plains.

Naina Devi Temple: The Temple dedicated to Naina devi is at the northern end of lake.

Naini Lake (Nainital): Naini lake is pradise to do paddle boating, one visiting Nainital would do and enjoy boating in Nainital. The pristine water of Naini Lake providing peace and tranquilty. The Lake can be divided into two parts one toward Mallital and other one at Tallital.

The Mall Road: As every hill station have so is of the Mall of Nainital you will love to walk through the Mall. Know the Mall is named as Govind Ballabh Pant Marg.

The Flats: The flat is situated on the northern end of Naini Lake there is small ground used for sports and other cultural activities. The flats get crowded during summer as number of people enjoy being there and have some local cuisine and enjoy shopping.

Zoo: Named after Govind Ballabh Pant is home of high altitude animals like leopard, hill fox Siberian Tiger or snow tiger, Rose ringed parakeet, Himalayan black bear monkey and other animals. The Zoo remains closed on Mondays.

Aerial Ropeway: From Mallital to Snow point you can have a breathtaking view of Himalayan ranges.

Governor’s House (Raj Bhawan): Governor’s House is one of the must visit place in Nainital built in 1899 and designed architect F.W. Stevens. Presently it is official guest house of Governer of Uttarakhand.

Snow View Point: You can ride a rope to reach at snow view point have majestic view of Himalayan peaks Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot and Trishuli. This peak is connected by motorable road also.

Eco Cave Garden:Located near Mallital Kumaon university campus. You will see man made caves of different animals.

Naina Peak/ China Peak: The height of Naina peak is 2615 mts from sea level. You can see birds Eye View of Naini lake and town from China Peak. You can also hire a pony to go to China Peak.

Tiffin Top: 4 Kms from Nainital on Ayarpatta hill with beautiful view of Majestic Mountains.
