About Joshimath

Joshimath is situated in chamoli district of garhwal division of Uttarakhand. Joshimath is the base camp to go to Badrinath, Valley of flowers and Auli one of the famous ski resort in Uttrakhand. You can also visit Govindghat, Ghangaria &Nanda Devi National Park from Joshimath. Joshimath is located at the height of 1890 from sea level is among popular places in North India can be approached from Deharadun and Saharanpur while driving from Delhi and connected by trains till Deharadun.

Jyotirmath or Joshimath was originally known as Kartikeyapura. Joshimath is 45km away from Badrinath, Joshimath is a pilgrim centre in north India in its own right.Joshimath the name Joshimath is derived from Sanskrit word ‘Jyotirmath’ the place of Jyotirlinga of Shiva. When the Badrinath Temple is closed in winter, the residents of Badri Nath climb down to winter at Joshimath. There are many old temples in this city.The temple is about 1200 years old it is Dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Joshimath, established by Shri Adi Sankaracharyathe others being those at Sringeri, Puri and Dwaraka.Joshi Math is one of the four important Maths of Shankracharia. It is a well-known historical city.In Joshi Math's main Bazaar, Gurdwara Dusht Daman is situated. This Gurdwara was constructed under the supervision of Sant Thandi Singh. It was completed in 1966.

Kalpavriksha: is known as kalpataru,kalpadruma and kalpapadapa. Kalpavriksha is one of the oldest tree in the country it is around 1,200 year old. The circumference of the Kalpavriksha has been calculated to be around 21.5mts.

Auli: is situated at an altitude of 3050 mts above sea level. Auli is the most popular skiing and paragliding spot state of Uttarakhand.

Narsingh Temple: The temple is dedicated to Lord Nasringh Devta which is the home of Shri Badrinathji in winters.

Ghangaria: is located 25 km away from the town of Joshimath and is locally called as Govinddham

Govindghat: Located 20 km from Joshimath and lies on the banks of the Alaknanda River. This place is famous for the Hemkund Sahib. Hemkund means the 'lake of snow' and the water of the lake is very cold. Book Your Tour

Vasudeva Temple: is situated just walking distance from Narsimha temple. The Vasudeva Temple is one of the most famous Vishnu temples in north India.

Mana:Situated 3kms from Badrinath and 50kms from Joshimath.Manais very close to Tibet border and it is one of the last villages of India.

Badrinath: Located at an altitude of 3,133mts above sea level, in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state it is the most sacred Dham of India. This Dham was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century. The temple is situated on the right bank of the holy Alaknanda River.

Hemkund Sahib: located at an altitude of 4,329mts above sea level. Hemkund Sahib is the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Govind Singhji mediated at Hemkund Sahib for years.

Valley of Flowers: The trek of 15km to Valley of Flowers start from Govindghat. Valley of Flowers National Park is nestled in the west Himalayas covering an area of 87.50sqkms.

Chopta:Situated 92kms away from chopta. Chopta is popularly known as Mini Switzerland of Uttaranchal.

Gopeshwar: Situated 60kms away from joshimath.The view of Chamoli from Gopeshwar is very picturesque. The town of Gopehswar is the administrative headquarters of the Chamoli district.

How to reach:

By Air:Jolly Grant which is 270kms is the nearest airport to reach Joshimath. There are regular flights from New Delhi.

Rail: Nearest Railway station is Haridwar, Connected with Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of India. Taxis are available from Haridwar Railway station to Joshimath.

Road:Connected by road from Delhi and other parts of North India.
