About Badrinath

Badrinath is Situated at an altitude of the 3,133 meters above sea level in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is located in the Nar Narayan range against the imposing backdrop of Neelkanth peak. Badrinath is one of the Char Dham and is most important sites in India without visiting Badrinath your Char Dham yatra is Incomplete. It is also believed that Narad Rishi, who also did his penance here, is even now is worshipping the supreme God in the form of Nar and Narayan with Ashtakshara mantras. Below the temple are the hot springs, Tapt Kund and Surya Kund, with waters at a temperature of 55°C. Badrinath provides some of the most breathtaking views of Himalayan ranges and Panoramic view of Valley. Some of the tourist spots in Badrinath are Vasudhara Falls, Brahma Kapal, Charanpaduka, Narad Kund, Neelkanth, Sheshnetra, Tapt Kund and the Temple Complex.

Brief History of Badrinath:-

The Badrinath temple was originally established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century. Badrinath is also one of the Panch Badris. The other four badris are Bhavishya Badri, Yogadhyan Badri, Bridha Badri or the 'Old Badri' and Adi Badri.The Badrinath temple opens only for six months in summer from May to the beginning of November. After this the whole township including the village of Mana closes down for the winter. The temple is closed and the idol of Uddhava is taken down to Pandukeshwar and kept in the temple there.The temple is divided into three parts. The garbh griha in which the idol of Lord Badrinath is seated in the inner part of this place and canopy covered with gold sheet. Second part is known as Darshan Mandap in which puja ceremonies are performed. Third part is the Sabha Mandap, which is an outer hall, where devotees wait for darshan of Lord Badrinath. Darshan of Lord Badrinath is available in Sabha Mandap at 6:30 A.M. to 13:00 Noon and 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Book Your Tour

Vasudhara Falls: Vasudhara falls is 400 feet high and it is set at an elevation of 12,000feet above sea level. Vasundhara falls in the mana village it is 04 km away from the main town.

Narad Kund: On the banks of the river Alaknanda, are many natural hot water springs, where people bath before they enter in the temples. Water in Narada Kund is so hot that it would not be advisable to take long baths in the pond.

Joshimath:Joshimath is the place where Adi Shankara had gotten enlightenment. Joshimath is the home of Shri Badrinath during winters.

Hemkund Sahib:Hemkund Sahib is important pilgrim center for people of Sikh religion and itslocated at amidst of snow caped peaks, where Guru Govind Singh Ji mediated for many years.

Govindghat: Govindghar is the base camp to go to Valley of flowers and Hemkund Sahib Its is also the important place to start some of the treks in region.

How to reach:

By Air: Jolly Grant which is 315 kms is the nearest airport to reach Badrinath. There are regular flights from New Delhi.

Rail: Nearest Railway station is Rishikesh, which is Connected with Haridwar, Dehradun and other parts of India. Taxis are available from Rishikesh Railway station to Badrinath.

Road: Connected by road from Delhi Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun , Kotdwar and other parts of North India.
